Hey William,

There’s always room in any field or on any subject for someone that can bring a new slant or new ideas to the table. Anything new, original or interesting can bring you a loyal following. If you’re good enough to get a small following, you’ll find that they’ll tell someone and then they’ll tell someone and so on. Having a loyal readership is 100% more valuable than getting any search engine traffic.

The secret is in getting found. Get your name out there and if you’re good you’ll make money.

Hey, thanks for dropping by! The site that I have that dropped to #1 has an inside page with the keywords in it. That page with the “keywords.htm” URL ranks #4 for those keywords so I have to say that having your keywords as any part of the URL should help your ranking.

Remember also, that the amount of competition for the keywords plays a big part in how you’ll rank. “Remembering the 70′s” is not a very highly competitive phrase.

I have been out of SEO optimization for so long that I feel like a newb all over again now that I am trying to focus on my newest blog’s ranks. I too have wondered about buying a new domain name based on what my site is about. But one of the things that stood out is how I found your site. I did a search with “remembering the 70s”. You rank number 2 based on the htm page and your site is above a domain with a similar name.

Now I am curious to see if sub domains might be used instead (if you don’t want to lose your “identity”) or breaking the website into directories. Would I rank higher if I had used the directory /remembering_the_70s for my wordpress blog instead of the short and sweet /70s. Have you experimented with either?
